Invitation: COVID-19–From Recovery to Sustainability
The International Science Council (ISC) cordially invites the WDS community to join a twofold (to cater for different time zones) online event that will kick off 2021 as a year of recovery and transformations within reach on 25 and 26 January. This event is open to everyone.
Part one: UN Roadmap for the COVID-19 Recovery
25 January, 16:00 CET (15:00 UTC)
The event will be kicked off with a presentation by Dr Steven Hoffman (Scientific Director, Institute of Population & Public Health, Canadian Institutes of Health Research) who led the development of the UN Research Roadmap for the COVID-19 Recovery. This will be followed by two parallel sessions to discuss the Roadmap with Aisen Etcheverry (National Director, National Research and Development Agency ANID, Chile) and Dr Isayvani Naicker (Director of Strategy, Policy and Partnerships, African Academy of Sciences).
Part two: Bouncing Forward Sustainably: Pathways to a post-COVID World – An introduction to the thematic reports from the IIASA-ISC partnership
26 January, 09:00 CET (08:00 UTC)
The WDS community is invited to join a welcome by Albert van Jaarsveld (Director General and Chief Executive Officer, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA)), followed by an introduction to the IIASA-ISC Consultative Science Platform 'Bouncing Forward Sustainably: Pathways to a Post-COVID World' by Dr Leena Srivastava (Deputy Director General for Science, IIASA) and Luis Gomez Echeverri (Emeritus Research Scholar, IIASA). Following the mainstage presentations, you can choose between four parallel discussions around the thematic reports of Governance for Sustainability, Strengthening Science Systems, Resilient Food Systems and Sustainable Energy, which were produced under this project. Learn more about the individual thematic tracks by joining one or more of these parallel sessions which will highlight what experts had to say on the different topics.
Ongoing throughout the two days
After the conclusion of the discussions on 25 and 26 January, please stay online for networking opportunities and to explore the virtual exhibition space, just like in an in-person conference.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please contact the ISC Membership Liaison Officer (Anne Thieme, anne.thieme[at]council[dot]science).
