Opening of ISRIC World Soil Museum
Since 2011 ISRIC - World Soil Information has worked on an exciting project, the construction of a new World Soil Museum located on the campus of Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR). On 250 square meters it displays a selection of ISRIC’s unique soil monolith collection. Further, visitors can experience the role of soils in supporting life and ecosystems, and get an impression of the enormous variation of soil types around the world, from the colourful volcanic ash soil from Indonesia to the man-made Terra Preta soil from the Amazon.
We can now proudly announce the re-opening of the World Soil Museum. To celebrate this occasion, the official opening ceremony will take place on Monday, 7 April 2014. The event includes a small international symposium on ‘Soils of the World’ with a keynote by renowned film-maker and ecologist John D. Liu, as well as inspiring and challenging personal soil stories by four invited guest speakers.
