IODE: International Data Sharing Workshop for Non-UN IGOs, Global and Regional Organizations and Projects, NGOs and Private Sector

The International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE; WDS Network Member) will hold a workshop: International Data Sharing Workshop for Non-UN IGOs, Global and Regional Organizations and Projects, NGOs and Private Sector online on 12 and 13 October.

Mandated by the UN General Assembly, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO is leading the preparations for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), hereafter the 'Ocean Decade' or 'Decade'. Multiple partners are involved and contribute. The current version of the Decade Implementation Plan can be downloaded here.

The work includes design of activities to address the Decade societal outcome of an accessible ocean, through which all stakeholders will have open and equitable access to ocean data, information, and technology to inform their decisions for a sustainable future. In April 2020, IODE organized the first Decade Workshop on Data Sharing focussing on member agencies of the UN Oceans Task Group for the Decade.

The objective of International Data Sharing Workshop for Non-UN IGOs, Global and Regional Organizations and Projects, NGOs and Private Sector is to

  1. Seek and share information on ocean data and information that is collected / managed / made available by participating organizations / companies / stakeholders.
  2. Discuss ways and means to improve the sharing of such data and information as a contribution to the objectives of the UN Ocean Decade.

Rorie Edmunds (Acting Executive Director) will attend the Workshop.
