Pacific and Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures (PARADISEC)
PARADISEC offers digital conservation and online access to endangered ethnographic materials from all over the world. We ensure access to researchers and to the descendants of those recorded, whilst conforming to international standards for digital archiving. Our growing archive of 85TB contains 300,000 files in 572 collections, and we have 5,533 registered users and contributors from 95 universities worldwide. Many of these archived items—audio and video recordings, images and text files—represent rare and irreplaceable records of linguistic, musical and cultural practices. We have an active outreach programme to locate at-risk audio tapes and digitise and accession them.
