2014 Award Winner

The 2014 WDS Data Stewardship Award was won by

Dr Xiaogang (Marshall) Ma
(Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute)

Dr Xiaogang Ma is a geoinformatics and data science researcher. His PhD research at ITC, University of Twente was closely related to OneGeology—a global data exchange initiative—while more recently, he has worked on provenance representation and capture of data in scientific workflows at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr Ma is a member of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (founder and first president of ITC student chapter, 2010; councillor candidate, 2011), American Geophysical Union (data science session organizer at Fall Meetings, 2013 & 2014), Federation of Earth Science Information Partners [WDS Partner Member] (Semantic Web and Data Stewardship clusters), and Commission for the Management and Application of Geoscience Information (Geoscience Terminology Working Group). Dr Ma also coordinated the GeoData 2014 workshop and the 2014 Deep Carbon Observatory Data Science Day symposium, and organized a data provenance session at the Association of American Geographers 2014 Annual Meeting.
